SEN
We aim to provide for each child's needs within the framework of the Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum. The school’s policy for Special Educational Needs is revised annually and is available for parents to see if they wish. The importance of early identification, assessment and provision for any child who may have special educational needs cannot be over-emphasised. The school will adhere to the model of action and intervention laid down in the revised Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs.
When there is concern about a child's progress, parents are consulted and informed. Parents are encouraged to let the school know if they are at all worried about any area of their child's development. At every stage of our work within Special Educational Needs, parents are kept fully informed and are invited to attend regular interviews of progress. All information is confidential; the school does not consult agencies outside the school without prior consent from parents.
Once any child is identified as having a special need at ‘school action’ an individual education programme is prepared by the member of staff responsible for SEN in liaison with parents and class teacher. Targets are set for the child and reviewed regularly. Individual programmes of work are shared with all adults who work with the child. Children receive small group and possibly individual tuition from non-class-based staff.
For children with statements of special educational needs, we provide teaching assistant support. Mrs S Tait is our Co-ordinator for Special Educational Needs. The nominated Governor for Special Needs are Mrs E Miller and Mrs S Taylor. If parents have any concerns about Special Needs, they are encouraged to contact Mrs Tait.
